SPRING WINE CLUB DELIVERED
All wine club members should have received their spring wine club delivery by now and hopefully resisting the urge to open the big reds before they have had time to age, say about 10 years! For those that have enjoyed them already, they are rather gorgeous aren’t they. That’s the beauty of our cool climate; the tannins are amazingly soft at a young age however those that choose to cellar the wines will be rewarded.
You are able to tailor your wine club deliveries to suit your preferences. If you are crazy in love with Gewurztraminer for instance simple email us and let us know to always make sure one of the bottles we send is this variety. Likewise if Sauvignon Blanc is not your cup of tea (or wine) for example, then email us to ensure we never put that variety in your 6 pack. We want to make sure you thoroughly enjoy every bottle in your ‘care’ package so just let us know your preferences!
Wine club members have the option of receiving their 6 packs every 6 months or every 3 months and each pack is just $150 with free delivery. Should you wish to change the frequency you receive your packs please let us know.
Not in the wine club? Want to receive our $65 reserve wines for just $25 as part of the 6 bottles delivered every 3 or 6 months? Want to receive 30% discount on any 12 bottles from across our range with free delivery any time during the year? Then membership forms and all the details can be found at http://www.symphonyhill.com.au/wineclub.html .
TOP GOLD ROYAL MELBOURNE FOR 2013 GEWURZTRAMINER
We have done it again! Two years ago we were awarded top gold at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show for our 2008 Reserve Shiraz and now a white wine has been given the same honour. It is a huge thrill to have received top golds at Melbourne for both red and white wines now! Our 2013 Gewurztraminer won top gold and was finalist for Best Single Variety White Wine Trophy!!! Being a finalist for the trophy, we were invited to attend the trophy presentation dinner. Ahh Melbourne! Elissa and I went down, as our winemaker Mike Hayes was still on his European Churchill Fellowship adventure. After the thrill of the dinner we went to the Supper Club where we were informed that last drinks were at 4am. I turned to Elissa and remarked, “We aren’t in Stanthorpe any more!”
Our 2013 Gewurztraminer is an outstanding example of this variety. It has jazz hands! The aromas of turkish delight, lychees and musk leap out of the glass – nothing shy about it. I have served it at two wine dinners over the last fortnight at The Queensland Club and Hope Island Wine Society and both times were proclaimed star of the evening when served with any spicy dish. From spicy Asian dishes to spicy tomato sauce on pasta, this wine is the perfect match.
You can enjoy it at the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Spicers resorts or Alto Bar at Broadbeach.
FOUR TROPHIES AT 2013 AUSTRALIAN SMALL WINEMAKERS SHOW
OK – we’re so bragging now. We won ten medals at the Australian Small Winemakers Show last week and were awarded 4 trophies! Best QLD Shiraz Trophy and Best QLD Red Wine Trophy for our 2008 Reserve Shiraz, and the combination of 10 medals awarded us Most Successful QLD Exhibitor Trophy and Technical Excellence in QLD Winemaking Trophy. The Trophy Presentation dinner coincided with Royal Melbourne Wine Show so our wonderful cellar hands Don Maddock and Tom Battle accepted their trophies for Symphony Hill. These guys are a huge part of our success so only fitting that they get to be in the limelight.
MIKE HAYES RETURNING FROM CHURCHILL FELLOWSHIP
Our winemaker extraordinaire, Mike Hayes, returns from Europe next week after two months exploring alternative grape varieties made possible from being awarded the prestigious Churchill Fellowship. His head will be filled with new ideas and inspirations.
It will be great to have him back and he will be hitting the ground running. We will be bottling last year’s red wines between now and vintage. Every year the aim is to have all the wine tanks empty before the first grapes arrive. This year will be very close!
Mike has had many wonderful viticultural and oenological experiences and these can be viewed at http://mikehayesfellowship.tumblr.com .
WELCOME TO NEW RESTAURANTS
A hearty welcome to restaurants now serving our wines. They include the simply stunning Spicers Resorts around Queensland after they invited me to showcase my wines to all their resort mangers as part of their staff training. The iconic Gun Shop Café in West End has listed 5 wines and it is wonderful to have our wines served in one of my favourite Brisbane restaurants. They have one of the best wine lists going around. Brisbane Gallery of Modern Art start serving our Gewurztraminer next week and after a glass of Gewurz you can nod more knowingly at the modern art work – who knows, you may even see visions. Maybe Glass of Gewurz at GOMA will be their new slogan. And lastly a big nod to QLD Performing Arts Centre for pouring our Pinot Gris.
Thank you so much for your support of our wines and for following our evolution from the early days until we become an overnight success in 10 years time!
Cheers!
